A benefit to help little 1-month-old WILLOW MARIE MARKA is just days away.
Join friends, family and other supporters at the loaded baked potato feed, silent auction and bake sale this Saturday (Oct. 19) at the East Grand Forks (Minn.) American Legion hall.
Willow, born Sept. 13 at the Mayo Clinic complex with a rare, life-threatening congenital heart condition, remains in Rochester, Minn., with h…er parents, Bill and Cassie (Knopp) Marka of Grand Forks and, formerly, of Owatonna, Minn. Cassie is an East Grand Forks native.
The benefit’s silent auction and bake sale run from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, with the baked potato feed starting at 4 and continuing until 7 p.m. A free-will offering is requested. All proceeds will help the Markas with medical and related expenses.
Willow faces at least two more open heart surgeries — and, very possibly at some point later, a heart transplant — to help her survive hypoplastic left heart syndrome, which left the left ventricle of Willow’s heart severely underdeveloped.
Since the surgery, the infant already has had to battle back from a collapsed lung, pneumonia and sepsis.
The benefit is organized by Team Willow, friends and family’s on Willow’s happy heart team, and it includes North Dakota charitable nonprofit NDAD as both a fundraiser sponsor and the caretaker of benefit funds. It’s part of NDAD’s free Community Fundraiser program.
