The 19th annual Escape to the Lake water recreation event for people with physical disabilities, held near Center, N.D., on June 15, gave more than 30 people — children and adults — a chance to water ski, enjoy a pontoon ride and have a weekend outing on a sunny day with friends, family and new acquaintances.
For some members, this year’s Escape was a first- or second-time affair. For others, the chance to water ski using adaptive skiing devices — and do so in front of family members and friends — has drawn them back year after year.
For everyone, it again provided proof that people with disabilities can experience some of the best opportunities life has to offer — if they’re just given a little help and the appropriate tools to do so.
See examples of this year’s Escape water skiing at the Facebook page for NDAD, the longtime charitable nonprofit that helps people with disabilities and health challenges help themselves.
In addition to NDAD, which also organizes the event, the on-site sponsors/participants included event co-founder Texas Adaptive Aquatics, plus Sporting Chance of Bismarck and the Aberdeen, S.D., Aqua Addicts ski team.
