Retail’s “Black Friday” and “Cyber Monday” have come and gone, but the gift-buying season continues.
Some gifts are certain to bring smiles.
Yet, imagine the gift that can change someone’s life — for the better.
For a family member with a disability, an assistive device or service which enhances independence and quality of life could be THE gift of this season — or any other.
The same holds true if you are the one with the disability and wish to make that special device or service a life-enhancing gift to yourself.
This type of gift might be much more financially attainable than you think, even during a frequently spendy holiday season. It very well can save you money as an alternative to other options.
Whether it’s a specially modified van or scooter, hearing aids, or computers with adaptive hardware and/or software — even special adaptive fishing equipment, if the recipient is an angler at heart –the gift-giving help you seek could be in the form of NDAD’s Financial Loan Program.
The program, provided in association with Alerus Financial, features loans that provide low interest rates and offer flexible financing terms. It’s available with no additional fees or charges through charitable nonprofit NDAD, which has helped North Dakotans with disabilities and other health challenges since 1975.
The loans are available for items from $500 to $50,000, depending on your ability to repay the loan amounts. Terms are subject to credit qualifications.
Other items that the loan can be used for include, but are not limited to, environmental control devices, such as voice-activated appliance controls; augmentative communication devices; recreational and leisure items; and training on AT devices.
It’s easy to obtain more information and, if you seek one, an application by calling (701) 775-5577, (800) 532-NDAD (or -6323), or TTY (701) 795-6637. We’ll be happy to answer your questions.
